Privacy policy
Last updated 2026-10-19
ContractRules is a static website: a set of pre-built pages with no user accounts, logins, or comment forms. This page explains, in plain English, what happens to information when you visit.
Cookies and analytics
The site's own code does not set cookies, does not use local storage, and does not include analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts. The pages load no third-party scripts, fonts, or embeds. The compare page loads one data file from this same site.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives the standard technical information your browser sends with each request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time. Cloudflare may log and process that information to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, and in some cases it may set strictly necessary security cookies. Cloudflare handles this under its own policy: Cloudflare privacy policy.
Newsletter
The “What changed this month” newsletter is sent through Buttondown. When you submit the signup form, your browser sends your email address directly to Buttondown, which opens in a new tab. ContractRules' own pages don't store it. Buttondown stores your address so we can send the newsletter, and handles it under its own policy: Buttondown privacy policy.
Signup is double opt-in: you'll get a confirmation email, and you're only subscribed after you click the link in it. Buttondown may ask you to complete a quick anti-spam check. Every issue has an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Newsletter issues can contain labeled sponsor placements and affiliate links. See the affiliate & sponsor disclosure.
Links to other sites, affiliates, and sponsors
Rule pages link to official and third-party sources, such as legislatures, regulators, and courts. Those sites have their own privacy practices.
The ContractRules site does not have any affiliate links yet. In the future, the site may include clearly labeled affiliate links (for example, to continuing-education providers) or a labeled sponsor link. If you click one, the partner's site may use its own cookies or tracking to record the referral. That happens on the partner's site, under the partner's privacy policy. See our affiliate & sponsor disclosure.
What we don't do
We don't sell personal information. Apart from the email address you choose to give our newsletter provider, the site doesn't collect personal information.
Changes to this policy
If what the site does changes, for example when affiliate links go live on the site, we'll update this page and the date above.
